BLACK RANGE PARK IS THE EXCITING NEW HOME OF THE MONUMENTAL KIDS MOUNTAIN BIKE RACE SERIES
18 April 2014
Black Range Park has become the brand new home of Kids Mountain Biking on the border. The new location will provide a custom built track designed by event organisers Dylan Clift and Marcus Richardson. With rolling undulations and sweeping turns the track in its current form got the big thumbs up from Billy Richardson, “This track is awesome” he said.
However in conjunction with Albury City, the track will take on an even better format with earthworks in the coming weeks planned to transform the track into the ideal kids’ mountain bike terrain with gentile undulations allowing easy climbing for little kids, small bumps for fun and winding turns to encourage skill development.
Upon seeing the site Dylan was excited by the possibilities, “this site has the advantage of toilets and shower; large flat off-street parking; a great track which we can mould into exactly what we want, and even a kids play ground” he said. “Even if the kids run off the track there are no large stones to hit, just soft kikuyu grass to cushion the fall” he went on to say.
“Albury City has been very helpful with moving locations” Marcus commented. With the existing Kalianna kids track being outside the clubs licenced operating area, Albury City had concerns over their insurance, so the kids’ series needed to move locations. “Before seeing Black Range I was cautious with my opinion, however after being onsite I was really impressed” Marcus said. “There are lots of advantages of being here, and with Albury City willing to change the track to suit our event it will really be a great resource for our area”.
For those that don’t know the area very well Marcus remarked, “I found it easy to get to, going north along Urana Road from the five-ways intersection it’s the first right after Coles Lavington, next left into Prune Street and then continue on until you see the large Holy Spirit church. The next right will be Schaeffer St which runs alongside the park and from which you enter the car park on the corner of Schaeffer and Kotthoff Streets”. “There is lots of green space here, it is a really nice park area” he said.
The next round of series, May 18, will be run on the new Black Range Park track.
